In accordance with the law "About specially protected nature territories" (p.32) any cases of the scientific research should be done in agreement with the institution responsible. The process of the research should not be in contradiction with the aims and objectives of the establishment and the protection of the territory.

The application for a scientific research in the protected territories should be sent to:

concerning nature reserves and national parks - a written permission must be obtained from the administration of the protected area;
concerning restricted areas - a written permission must be obtained from the regional environment protection board and the Nature Conservation Agency should be informed;
in nature parks, protected landscape areas and nature monuments - the Nature Conservation Agency should be informed.

To inform the Nature Conservation Agency about a scientific research, an application form should be filled in and posted to the Nature Conservation Agency (Baznīcas iela 7, Sigulda, LV 2150).
