The Award
What is the Award about? The European Natura 2000 Award aims to honour successful nature conservation achievements and reward excellence in the management and promotion of the network, as well as to raise awareness about Natura 2000 and its benefits to European citizens.

Who can apply? Any public or private organisations involved in managing Natura 2000 sites across the European Union can apply – from national authorities and environmental NGOs, to businesses, farmers and landowners, education institutions to media organisations, even individuals.

Why apply? There are numerous benefits of applying for the Award which include notably a Europe-wide promotion of applicants’ efforts and achievements.

Finalists are automatically entered into the public vote for the Citizens’ Award, which will be widely promoted across Europe. Finalists will also be offered a professional-level training on how to use social media for their own communications needs. This is in addition to an invitation to attend the Award Ceremony in the Commission headquarters at Berlaymont in Brussels.

The six winners also receive a small financial prize to put towards their ongoing nature conservation activities, as well as support in organising an event to celebrate their win and promote their achievements to local and national audiences.

How to apply
Applications are submitted via the Award website. The Award website provides detailed information for applicants, including guidance for each of the Award’s categories and the selection criteria. Applications can be submitted in all EU languages.
